In Science, we learnt about asexual reproduction in plants following last week's lesson on sexual reproduction in plants.

 

 

In Geography, for our water topic we learnt all about the Water Cycle and created amazing eye-catching posters:

This half term, our theme will be water and nature. In Science, out topic is Life Cycles and in Geography, Water. In Art we will be looking at patterns in nature and then nature inspired watercolours.

In English, we are looking at the book, The Lost Words and creating Black Out poems. Here are a few examples:

 

 

In Maths, we continue with percentages and them move onto area and perimeter.

This week in English, we continued with our persuasive writing and the children are now writing to Mr Kenyon about various issues!

In Maths, we have continued with decimals and are just starting work on percentages. We will continue with this after half term.

This week it was Children's Mental Health Week and also, on Tuesday, Safer Internet Day. A very busy week!

We took part in lots of different activities on Monday afternoon, such as Arts and Crafts and singing. Then on Tuesday, Cypress and Cedar both looked at how to stay safe while on the internet:

This week we completed our newspaper reports based on Kensuke's Kingdom. Have a look at some of our wonderful work:

In PSHE this week, we looked at our first "No Outsides" book, The Girls. In the lesson, we explored the strength and the durability of friendships. The children produced some great work:

 

In D.T., we built suspension bridges and tested how strong they are. The children did a great job and some of the bridges held 1 kg.

In Music, year 5 have been listening to and performing The Blues. Last week, they learnt the 12 bar blues chord and this week the blues scale:

In Maths, we have now finished our work on multiplication and division for this term. In English, the children have just begun their newspaper reports on Kensuke's Kingdom.

 

In R.E., we compared the beliefs of Hinduism, Buddhism and Christianity and in particular looked at what these religions believe happens once we die. The children produced some lovely work:

A big welcome back to Year 5 after Christmas.

 

Here is a brief outline of what we will be covering this half term:

 

In English, our text is Kensuke's Kingdom and the children will be writing a newspaper report based on this over the next few weeks.

In Maths, we begin with multiplication and division and then go back to fractions again!

The topic in Science this half term is Forces and we will be carrying out lots of investigations. This links very well to our Design and Technology topic of Building Bridges.

In History, we will be investigating the Anglo-Saxons.
