Summer term

Week Commencing 15th May

This week, after a hectic and exhausting SATs week, our Year 6s have had some well deserved 'down time' we have enjoyed a year group rounders competition and a movie afternoon. Of course, we have continued working hard, especially in English lessons, with a focus on direct speech punctuation. In maths, we have been drawing geometric patterns, using a 360 degree compass, we are sure you will agree the final pieces look beautiful! We have also started the Science topic of 'Light' and continued with our Geography topic of South America. Next week, most of our Y6s are heading off for their residential trip to Kingswood while the children who are remaining in school also have an action packed week ahead of them!

Week Commencing 9th May

This week was SATs Week!! Our children were absolutely fabulous, we, as staff, are so proud of them! Well done Year 6, you are superstars!

Week Commencing 1st May

Despite only having 3 days in school this week, we have continued to revise hard to prepare for next week's SATs exams. We have produced some revision posters in all subjects and taught PSHE sessions on how to combat SATs nerves. We are very proud of our children and all they have achieved thus far.

Week Commencing 24th April

This week, the children have continued to prepare for SATs; in English, they have written independent setting descriptions for assessment and in Maths we have learnt our final 'new' concept - calculating the average (mean) and revised co-ordinates in four quadrants. We have also continued to work on Reading and Grammar SATs style questions. In our foundation subjects, we have continued with our lessons on South America - this week we have explored the climate in the different countries on this continent. In PSHE we have continued with our relationship lessons and we have spent two afternoons working on a whole school collaborative art project inspired by Ben Kwok who was also the inspiration behind the lions we posted before the Easter break.

Week Commencing 17th April

Welcome to the Summer Term, we hope that everyone had an enjoyable Easter Break.

This week, the Y6 children have returned to school with excellent focus in preparation for their upcoming SATs exams. In English, we have had a narrative focus and the children have produced some excellent setting descriptions, making use of figurative language. In Maths, we have concentrated on shape covering: 2D shape (including the properties of circles), 3D shape, nets and volume. We have also started our new topic of South America, using atlases to locate all of the countries and their capitals within the continent.
