Summer term
Week Beginning 5th June 2023
Firstly, a big welcome back to everyone after half term, we hope you have a wonderful week. We are really happy to see everyone back in school.
In Maths this week we have been learning to tell the time. We have learnt about o'clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to. We have also started to tell the time to the nearest 5 minutes. If at all possible, please practise this with your children at home as some pupils have found this very tricky.
In English, we have started our new superhero topic. We have read the story of Supertato, ordered the events and retold the story in our own words. We are also learning how to check our work carefully to make sure we have included everything we need to.
Also this week we have: made animations on the computer, begun our new PE topic of invasion games, tested our reflexes and talked about how different animals change as they get older.
A huge thank you to all the parents that read 4 times a week- it is the most important piece of homework that you can do with your child. Remember that you have the chance to come in and read with your child every Tuesday afternoon at 2.50pm.
Week Beginning 22nd May 2023
Diversity Week
This week at White Bridge we have been celebrating diversity. We have had a whole week full of different fun activities
and important learning about the diverse world we live in.
We were very lucky in Year 2 and had two parents kindly offer to come in and talk to us about their own culture and
living aborad. First we learnt about Spain and had a go at saying some words in Spanish.
Later in the week we learnt about Romania and some of the cultural differences and similarities between Romania and the U.K.
In PSHE we thought about what makes us unique and created a hand print to represent ourselves.
English
In English we have been completing work on the story Part of the Party which is set in Australia.
We sequenced events from the story, wrote a retell and a letter to one of the main characters.
Maths
In Maths we have been recapping money and shape. Later on in the week we created our own
Maths themed board games. Some of the games were fantastic and we remembered to include
questions that covered key skills that we have worked on this year.
Well done to everyone in Year 2 who is reading 4 times or more at home!
The children are also really enjoying having adults come in to read on a
Tuesday afternoon - thank you if you have been able to make it!
Week Beginning 15th May 2023
This week, the children really made us proud. We did our 'quizzes/papers' (SATs) and all of the children tried really hard and put lots of effort into making sure they answered everything they could- well done Year 2!
We also completed lots of other activities such as writing a bubble story, animation in the computing suite, learning about Kenya in Africa and thinking about touch and what is appropriate and what isn't appropriate.
Well done to everyone in Year 2 who is reading 4 times or more at home!
The children are also really enjoying having adults come in to read on a
Tuesday afternoon - thank you if you have been able to make it!
Week Beginning 8th May 2023
English
This week we have been writing about the King's Coronation. We wrote factual sentences about what the Coronation
actually was and what happened to celebrate this historical event. We also wrote a letter to King Charles III
thinking of different questions we could ask him. We focussed on remembering to use question marks correctly
e.g. Which country do you enjoy travelling to the most?
Finally, we wrote a recipe about what we thought it would take to make the perfect King. The
children were fantastic at thinking of different key skills and really impressed us with their creativty.
Maths
This week in Maths we have been recapping different strategies for addition, subtraction, division and multiplication
calculations. Each day we focussed on a different operation and explored how we could solve these calculations.
Art
This week in Art we stuck with the King's Coronation theme but focussed on pattern. We looked at different
exmaples of patterns and discussed how patterns can be different from each-other. We were given a crown that
had been quartered, in each section we had to create a different pattern. Some of the amazing crowns can be seen
on the Rowan Class windows along the drive into school.
Well done to everyone in Year 2 who is reading 4 times or more at home!
The children are also really enjoying having adults come in to read on a
Tuesday afternoon - thank you if you have been able to make it!
Week Beginning 1st May 2023
English
This week in English we have been writing and planning our own stories. Each day we were given a picture which we used
to write a story about. The pictures were of space, a mad scientist and a child climbing through an
empty window. Each day we planned what we wanted to write our story about and then wrote the story in full sentences.
Our main focus was using capital letters and full stops correctly.
Maths
In Maths this week we have been working on finding the whole, identifying unit and non-unit fractions and recognising
three quarters. We worked with shapes and amounts and also recapped on other Maths that we have covered
this past half term.
Geography
This week in Geography we have been learning about Australia. We learnt about different animals and reptiles
that might be found in Australia and also some of its most important landmarks.
Well done to everyone in Year 2 who is reading 4 times or more at home!
The children are also really enjoying having adults come in to read on a
Tuesday afternoon - thank you if you have been able to make it!
A special thank you to all the children who made a crown for our school crown parade.
Teachers in Year 2 were so impressed with the effort that had been made to create such stunning
crowns as part of your homework.
We hope you enjoyed watching the parade as much we enjoyed taking part!
Have a fantastic Coronation Weekend.

We also had a go at assessing our own work and looking at a friends work to see if we could spot the skills in someone else's work.

story. Each day we focussed on a different skill such as using conjunctions, noun phrases and writing in the past tense.
We also did our handwriting practise and looked at long and short vowel

We looked at different shapes that had been halved and identified if it had been halved correctly.

In Science this week we have continued to learn about different habitats. Our focus this week was
micro-habitats such as under a log or at the bottom of a tree. We went around the school grounds to explore which
minibeasts we could find in different microhabitats. We found spiders, ants, woodlouse and more. It was really fun
and we felt like real scientific explorers!
Well done to everyone in Year 2 who is reading 4 times or more at home!
